| The 4th Annual Robert Fumiatti Memorial Golf Tournament set for September 27th, 2010 at Orange Hills Country Club |
On Monday September 28th, 2009, the friends of Rob Fumiatti held the second annual memorial golf tournament at Orange Hills Country Club. This tournament was created in the memory of Officer Robert Fumiatti badge #24 of the New Haven Police Department. Rob passed away on January 10th, 2007 at the age of 35, leaving behind his wife, Stacey, daughters, Madelyn and Caitlin, and son, Vincent. Rob joined the New Haven Police Department on December 7th, 1998 and attended the New Haven Police Academy, from which he graduated on May 21,1999. Rob was assigned to the patrol division upon graduation. On April 28,2002 he was assigned to the Investigative Services/Street Interdiction Unit. On June 13th, 2002 Rob was shot in the face while working in this unit. Rob persevered through this and amazingly returned to work 18 months later. Rob returned to the narcotics unit with a new partner, "Major", after graduating from the State Police Canine Training Unit. Post Traumatic Stress caused Rob to stop working as a K-9 handler. Again, this didn't stop Rob, he began to work in the chief's office. Here he worked on a variety of crime analysis projects. He documented the apprehensions and gun seizures, as well as the legal outcomes. This showed his commitment to the police department, the citizens of New Haven, his friends, and his family. Rob also had a commitment to the golf course. He was an avid golfer and a supporter of many local charity golf tournaments. Rob was an all around great guy and good friend to many. 144 Golfers and numerous volunteers took part in remembering Rob the best way they knew how, playing 18 holes of golf. He would have loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Robert Fumiatti Memorial Golf Tournament donated all proceeds to the Fumiatti Children's Fund. The tournament is set to be an annual event with the 4th annual already scheduled for September 27th, 2010 at Orange Hills Country Club. Please join us again as we help a worthy cause and remember ROB. |
